Rachel Valencia is an LCP Scholar Graduate who is now serving on the frontline of COVID-19 in Dumaguete City Philippines. Rachel was sponsored when she was just 6 years old in 1996. She grew up in LCP learning to have a relationship with God and getting a valuable education, and she recalls her time at LCP being like her second home, and her friends there like family.

Thanks to her sponsors and donors, Rachel Randolf and Mary Gray, she was able to complete her college education from St. Paul University in 2010. She studied nursing and began working that same year. Currently, Rachel serves as a head nurse on the OB/GYN floor of the ACE Doctors Hospital in Dumaguete.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak, the hospital has reduced their capacity for patients to make room for potential isolation patients and reduce risk of Coronavirus spread in house. The Pediatric and OB/GYN floors have been combined to accommodate these changes. As one of the head nurses on this floor, Rachel has been charged with caring for the supposed COVID-19 positive pediatric patients (pictured above in full PPE).

Thankfully, so far Dumaguete has had few confirmed positives, and with the enhanced community quarantine measures we hope to see the end of the spread of Coronavirus in Negros Oriental, as well as in the Philippines as a whole. We are so proud of Rachel and her service as a nurse during these unprecedented times. Our prayers continue to be with Rachel as well as all other frontliners handling the COVID-19 pandemic.
