What others have done?

  • One young woman, a former volunteer, is providing sponsorships for 7 children.
  • A Presbyterian Church in Massachusetts provides funding to support eight preschools at a cost of $11,000 a year. Present and former members provide over twenty full sponsorships annually for LCP children.
  • Lancaster County, PA Lions Club members helped one volunteer collect over 1,000 pairs of eyeglasses to be distributed to hundreds of Philippine people living in poverty.
  • Three Sunday school classes in a Baptist Church pledged $40 per month to transport LCP families to Sunday assembly and classes. Most families live many miles from the LCP center and own no motorized vehicles.
  • One American physician is funding the LCP Health program for a year at a cost exceeding $2,000.
  • Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Canada and an Inner Wheel Club in Sweden have provided sponsorships for several children.

  • One family donated $20,000 to build the mission house where volunteers live, staff work and many classes and activities are held.

What you can do?

Perhaps your Church Mission Committee or one of your Church organizations (ie, Men's Club, Women's Club, Outreach Committee or Sunday School Class) would like to become an LCW Partner by co-sponsoring one or more of the following LCW programs. Please contact us  for more information on how you or your organization can help.

HOUSING

Housing assistance - many existing homes are in need of new roofs or other major repairs that LCP families cannot afford to repair without assistance.

HEALTH CARE and HANDCLASP

Nutrition Program and Soup Kitchen - examinations have shown that over 100 LCP children are malnourished. Your gift of $100 could provide multivitamins and powdered milk to a malnourished child for year. Vitamins are needed since they are expensive to purchase in Dumaguete. Funding is also needed to expand the Soup Kitchen to serve more hungry children.

Handclasp - a program that helps physically handicapped children to obtain needed surgery and medical care. Physical therapy, home schooling, and counseling are also provided. Your gift of $200 could provide assistance needed by one family whose child undergoes surgery.

Community Health Program – Provides health care for mothers and children with special emphasis on health education. Basic medicines and health care supplies are needed including flip-flops for the Parasite Control program.

LIVELIHOOD

Volunteer Service - two dozen people from age 19 to 65 volunteered over 100 months of service last year at virtually no cost to LCP. As a volunteer, you could assist in a variety of LCP programs from education and health to tutoring and financial accounting. Whatever your talents, LCP can find a role for you.

EDUCATION/SPONSORSHIP

Child Educational Sponsorships - education is not free in the Philippines. Your donation of $360 annually could provide a sponsorship for one child to attend school. There are over 450 children waiting for sponsorship.

College Work Scholarships  - As of 2003, 30 LCP high school graduates are currently eligible for college. Your donation of $500 could enable one young adult to attend college for one year in the Philippines. A college education is the only way most Philippine youth will be able to escape poverty.

LCP Library - The library at LCP is becoming the best in the area but can still use donations of textbooks, reference books such as Encyclopedias, children's books that encourage reading skills, grade related activity books that enhance math, reading, writing and English skills, youth books that encourage reading skills for youth, Christian books that would enhance morals, World Almanac, English literature books, Design and construction books for Civil Engineer and Architecture books, and videos that can be used for all the programs.

LCP Preschools - There are 8 LCP preschools and they are collecting gifts for the children at Christmas and graduation, and in need of books, pencils, crayons, paper, teaching materials, activity books, and videos.

PEACE AND FAITH

This program provides Sunday School Classes and worship opportunities as well as Bible studies in each of our 15 communities. Funding is needed to support the Pastor and operational expenses. Christian teaching materials and resource materials for children's Sunday School are greatly needed.

RESCUING STREET CHILDREN

Taclobo Center - a dormitory for boys who were formally homeless.

School on Wheels - a project to prepare out of school children to reenter public schools.

Funding is needed to cover operational expenses of both programs.

OTHER PROGRAMS

LCP Facilities Renewal - significant increases in people being served require enlargement of the peace chapel, construction of a new education building and renewal of existing facilities which are over 10 years old. Fortunately, the Consuelo Foundation has agreed to finance the construction of a multipurpose building complex to meet the current demands. What is urgently needed now are funds to purchase furniture and equipment for the new buildings. Anyone interested to help may contact Glenna Waller, LCW Vice President, at 770-358-3880 or ghwlcw@charter.net.

Contingency Fund – provides for emergencies as they arise.

Computer Fund – The LCW Office in Tennessee needs a minimum of two new computers. Computers are essential as we prepare our youth to enter tomorrow's competitive job market.

General Fund – for operational expenses.
