Founders'
Message
Welcome to our
web site! Little Children of the World, Inc. (LCW) plays a vital
role in the life of thousands of at-risk children and their families
in the Philippines, Haiti, and east Tennessee. Servicing a constituency
of some 1000 families on Negros island in the central Philippines,
we are reaching out to more than 5000 impoverished Filipinos. Recently
a project has been opened in Ingan, Leyte, patterned after the Dumaguete
model. More recently, LCW opened a joint project with the Christian
School of New Vision in La Jeune, Haiti. In addition, we have two
ongoing projects in Etowah, Tennessee: an After-School Program for
preteens and a Retreat and Training Center.
We
believe LCW has successfully developed a prototype in the Philippines
which can and ought to be replicated in other areas of the world.
This is our challenge for the coming years. Recent findings regarding
the plight of children who are victims of poverty and vulnerable
to abuse remains one of the most neglected mission frontiers today.
It has been said that, "If we donšt care about children, then
we donšt care about the future."
Our
main office is in Etowah, TN, under the leadership of Bettie Elwood,
LCW President and CEO. The Finance office is in Barnesville, GA
under the leadership of Glenna Houk Waller, LCW Vice President and
CFO. A branch office has been established in Vancouver, WA under
the leadership of Marciana Hope, for the purpose of administering
the Leyte project. Another branch office exists in Heiskell, TN
under the leadership of Marcia Fisher, for the purpose of administering
the Haiti project. Both of these projects, like LCP Dumaguete, endeavor
to empower disadvantaged children and their parents so they may
escape the dire effects of poverty and emerge as strong, self-reliant
families with Christian values.
We are deeply
grateful to our child sponsors, college scholarship donors, volunteers,
and other donors, for without their help and support these accomplishments
would not be possible. LCW continues to need child sponsors, scholarship
donors, volunteers, and additional funding for its multifaceted
program.
