Camp Etowah After School Program(ASP) was begun to target at-risk and latch-key children in the Etowah, Tennessee and McMinn County area to develop caring communities for children to escape the cycle of poverty and abuse and become, within a context of Christian values, contributing members of their society. We work in the Etowah facility with local volunteers to build character and hope by providing tutoring, behavior intervention, and positive role models to children in need while sharing the gifts of salvation and discipleship. The program is currently enrolling Grades 3, 4 and 5. Students continuing the program through graduation can go on scheduled outings such as those pictured below during trips to the aquarium and the Mayfield Dairy. A bus has been donated by Johns Manville to take children home from the program each day.

They have previously put up doors on our amphitheater, cut a new trail to the most perfect place to camp on our property and set in posts for a deck area to be built onto our pavilion. Local families and church groups also come here to perform work services. Such as the youth class that came to mow our grass, and the Sunday school class that came to plant flowers, trees, and landscape here. A church group or family weekend or overnight work camp may provide opportunity to build a prayer garden, volleyball court, clear trails or creek bed, landscape, community outreach or a wide variety of other projects where the fees for the visit are determined by the project or activities chosen. Single Parent Ministry has been spawned from the after school program because many of the children we provide services for are from single parent homes. We have proposed to teach finance and budgeting, as well as typing lessons and have ten computers and a small library available for the single parents to use. If you would like to contribute to our library for Single Parents; please mail books to Single Parent Ministry 361 County Road 475 Etowah, TN. 37331. We are developing a referral system for Single Parents to obtain help from other sources. There are many churches in our community and LCW is looking to serve as a bridge connecting a family headed by only one parent with a local church. An overwhelming majority of single parent families do not attend church. At the time of a rapid increase of single parent families who do not go to church, there is a rapid decline in church membership. This is the "Hidden Mission Field", declares Theresa McKenna, and it's as large as the entire population of Central America! LCW would like to develop a local support network for any single parent who has a need. This ministry will meet monthly to provide emotional, physical, social and spiritual support. Childcare will be provided for these meetings. Through a planned ministry of friendship, caring Christians can reach out to hurting families and we will provide the focal point which will connect the single family with a mentoring group through Camp Etowah's After School Program. Please contact us for information or to make a donation on any of these programs: 361 County Road #475 Etowah, TN 37331 (423) 263-2303 (tel/fax) (423) 572-0574 (after hours cell) aspdirector@littlechildren.org All donations go to an interdenominational not-for-profit children's ministry incorporated in 1987 under the name Little Children of the World. |
