Volunteering
Time
If
you are like most people, you want to travel and see the world.
Being service-oriented, you also may want to spend that time and
money wisely in some helpful kind of voluntary service. If so, Little
Children of the World can make it possible for you to combine service
with adventure. We
encourage volunteering because it makes possible a genuine partnership
which should be the goal of any international service organization,
especially one with a Christian motivation to serve the least fortunate
in the name and spirit of Christ.
Exposure
Trips
We
invite churches to send us applicants, individuals or groups, for
exposure to Christian mission overseas, and to children's ministry
in particular. The applicants would need to raise their own funds
for travel and food expense, as there is no budget item for this.
They should plan to stay no longer than two months.
Processing
Applications
It
should be understood that all volunteer and exposure trip applications
are processed through the LCW office in Etowah, Tennessee: E-mail:
lcotw@littlechildren.org
Volunteers are especially needed in the home offices, whether Etowah,
TN or Barnesville, GA, and we welcome them. Volunteers of all ages,
including senior citizens through Retired Senior Volunteer Program,
are needed in the areas of Financial Accounting for non-profit organizations,
Fund Raising, Publications (newsletters, brochures, etc.), After-School
Program, Camping, Cooking for overnight/weekend guests, Computer
Skills, Photography, Carpentry/Maintenance, and Recreation (taking
groups to Ocoee, the Lost Sea, Bald River Falls, Chattanooga Aquarium,
etc.).
Applicants for
overseas projects need to know that we are looking especially for
mature volunteers who have both training and experience in one or
more of the following fields: Medical Specialization (e.g., heart
or eye doctors), Carpentry, Handicrafts and Marketing, Financial
Accounting for Non-Profit Organizations, Computer Technology, Agriculture
and Marketing Products, Non-Formal Education, Christian Education,
Personnel, Social Work for Children with a Disability, and Physical
Therapy. Applicants should also know that we are looking especially
for volunteers who are practicing Christians, LCW being a Christian
ministry for the benefit of children at risk. If volunteers are
not Christians, they are expected to respect the Christian orientation
of the LCW program. Volunteers are also needed whenever we start
a new LCW project in another country such as Haiti.
Volunteers are
to be commended for their willingness to raise the funds they need
for transportation to and from the project site, and for serving
as staff co-workers without pay for the period agreed upon. They
may volunteer as individuals or as members of an organized group.
Most of our volunteers go out as individuals and work alongside
others of different racial or ethnic background, which makes it
an exciting and rewarding experience.
