H.E.L.P.
H
stands
for adequate Health services. Regular physical examinations, nutrition
programs and sanitation classes focus on preventive health care.
LCW also coordinates immunizations, emergency medical loans as needed,
and free corrective surgeries, when funds are available.
The
Handclasp program
provides services and surgeries for children with disabilities.
Liliane Foundation provides free services for long term disabilities
such as cerebral palsy. Shriners International also provide free
corrective surgeries for use of prosthetic devices. The Handclasp
Program gives new opportunities and hope to dozens of children suffering
from cleft palates, club feet and other disfiguring and handicapped
conditions.

H also stands for low-cost
Housing. In partnership with Consuelo Foundation and Habitat for
Humanity, LCW has initiated the construction of over 500 new homes
for homeless and impoverished families. LCW also runs a dormitory
and crisis center for children who are homeless.
E
stands for relevant Education. Believing that all children
should have access to education, LCW matches sponsors from around
the world with children from poverty-stricken families. The education
program includes a free preschool in each community, sponsorships
and scholarships to enable children to attend public schools and
colleges, and after-school tutoring services as needed. Children
growing up in a poverty sub-culture know that education can give
them the chance to be teachers, merchants or doctors. But some
parents are so poor they cannot give up the income the child
could earn during the week by selling peanuts, washing motorbikes
or begging.
L
stands for Livelihood opportunities. LCW manages a farm,
encourages family livelihood projects, has a cooperative store,
and teaches new skills such as sewing and pig-raising to improve
their standard of living.
P
is for the Peace and Faith program that seeks to instill
Christian values and commitment through Bible study classes and
worship, as well as instruction in child and/or spouse abuse prevention,
and conflict resolution.
